Why this Northrift Mp defied colleagues and chose to save DP Gachagua
The Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua
was yesterday impeached by the National Assembly.
Ranging from both the Azimio la Umoja
and Kenya Kwanza coalition, the majority of the lawmakers voted in support of
the motion to impeach him, claiming that he has grossly violated the
Constitution multiple times throughout the past two years.
Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse tabled
the motion, presenting 11 grounds to impeach the DP. Some of these include
gross violation of the Constitution, gross misconduct, bullying, corruption,
undermining the presidency among others.
A total of 281 Mps voted in support
while 44 voted No and 1 abstained.Marakwet West MP Timothy Kipchumba is among the legislators
who stood with Gachagua and voted No.

Kipchumba questioned the motive behind
Gachagua's impeachment at a time when the ruling party ought to be implementing
their manifesto.
During the 2022 elections, Kipchumba trounced UDA candidate to win the seat on an independent ticket.
